The Nicole Fiacco Gallery is pleased to present MYTHS OF THE NEAR FUTURE, an exhibition that takes its title from an inspired collection of short stories written in 1982 by J.G. Ballard. The exhibition is selected by Nicole Fiacco, from an idea developed in conversation with artist Joan Banach. It includes sculpture, video installation, painting, and mixed media. Exhibiting artists include Joan Banach, Daniela Dooling, Barbara Ess, Elliot Green, Zohar Lazar, Les LeVeque, John Lees, Jason Middlebrook, Ken Polinskie, Kathryn Spence and David True. Also on view in the street level space is a solo showing by gallery artist Linda B. Horn who will exhibit digitally manipulated photographs from her Audubon Series.
Works in the exhibition explore various imperatives: in some, the nominal realities of space, in others, landscapes of dream and artifice, the destruction and reclamation of color, the twilight world of the forest, the half world of cinema, points of no return, the intersection of science and fiction, degrees of permanence, and ambiguities of time; each, as Ballard once wrote, like “a reflection in a lake that has somehow lost its original.”
