Christopher Haun: Unbelievable!

The Nicole Fiacco Gallery is pleased to announce a solo exhibition of mixed media works by Christopher Haun (American b. 1971).  In his first exhibition since joining the gallery, Haun will present a new body of work that uses imagery pulled from mass email showing unbelievable scenes of disaster, impossible flukes and bizarre accidents.  The imagery doubles as content and form in his largely abstract mixed media wall objects. 

Haun is known for his interesting use of materials and the relationship between the raw materials used and their content.  Haun uses both paper and plastic as medium.  His luminous wall works are made of digital prints, paint, and transparent acrylic Plexiglas.  Haun’s works on paper are cut and pasted images culled from his own collection of printed matter from sub-pop culture, especially magazines about bmx, surfing, music, fashion, green architecture, and contemporary art.  He lays out his compositions in a simple, geometric fashion on large fields of color. In the plastic wall works, Haun constructs glowing light boxes with thin layers of transparent Plexiglas, where layers of digital image overlap layers paint, veiling, revealing, and distorting visual space and depth of field.

Christopher Haun’s work has exhibited extensively in Los Angeles, New York and Miami and is part of prominent collections including Creative Artists Agency, The Frederick R. Weisman Foundation and the collection of Francis J. Greenburger.  His work has been reviewed in L.A. Weekly and Art on Paper Magazine.

Haun received a BFA from Otis Art Institute in 1994, and was on the faculty at the Armory Center for the Arts in Pasadena from 1995-97. Haun grew up swinging from the trees on the riverbanks of the Ocmulgee River in Macon, Georgia. He currently lives and works in Hudson, New York.
